    I've lost several relatives to cancer.

    More recently I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 (lost 6" of it), suffered through months of chemo, but came out OK, then in 2004 found out my Gallbladder burst, OK so the Appendix went also, then to top everything off the cancer came back and invaded my liver. In 2005 I lost over 75% of my liver in a 9 hour operation. I'm just now beginning to fully recover and my liver is almost back to it's original size I'm just grateful to be alive.

    I Fold so others may not have to endure what I have, and Kudos to all those that do. I also try to spread the word and get everyone I know who has a computer to do also.

    Fold On!!!

    That system seems more powerful than a new Ibook 12". yes the ibook has a little faster processor, but this imac has 80GB,SD, 768mb ram, Plus a 17" LCD, even if It can't exactly be used with anything else. But then because its not new and shiny depreciation sets in. If I had the cash I'd be willing to pay $800-850 depending on what (demo only, of course) software may be left on there.

    I don't know guys, I'm sold on the Mac Pro; after owning the 2.93 iMac the pro feels much faster, and I'm talking just basic tasks so far. The Pro i went with is the 3.2 quad with a 5870 so although the proc isn't much faster, it is night and day, I'm not sure what does it but i'm definitely happy.

    Congrats on the new MP!

    Put a fast SSD in that pup asap! :D

    Well its possible they are talking about the PowerBook G5, especially since someone at Apple accedently released the G5 specs a few days before they were released.

    Uh? Thought you're getting married? Now you have to "find" her?

    And life is wonderful? I'm lost.

    ok, im starting saving up. :)
    also you can connect apple display with mini displayport to thunderbolt. what the diference it would be if a display has thunderbolt? bigger resolution because of higher speed?
    and what would daisy-chaining give me?

    The difference would be just one or two less cables. Hopefully two.

    I'm very much linkin' this. Now, we need tv commercials for this thing . . .

    Under every tree, Star Wars DVD Box set which you can watch on your brand new iMac G5.

    *wishful thinking*

    The new one has some improvements in internal layout, cooling, and expandability.

    If you do not plan on upgrading the machines while you own them -- then buying on cost alone shouldn't be much of a problem during ownership, since performance is similar.

    However, if you plan on doing a lot of heavy optical burning (or see the need to keep optical up-to-date or need more than one), if you see the need a bunch of HDs, or you plan on keeping the CPU up-to-date -- then the newer one may make a little more sense.

    I know we'll know for sure real soon, but I was just wondering if there's any expectation one way or the other regarding how likely the ipad2 will be jailbreak-able, either with the current apps or with current known but unused exploits.

    usually the Dev Team keeps quiet on exploits, but with 3 betas to work with I'm sure they're ready to go with iOS 4.3 jailbreak when it's released with the iPad 2 as expected. Don't see why Apple would make any hardware changes that would put the breaks on Jailbreaking. Unlocking is a totally different animal so we'll have to see....

    Try this (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75129&SaveKCWindowURL=http%3A%2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePage&searchMode=Expert&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com&showButton=true&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false&sessionID=10748575!adam@khdist.com.au|155862823)

    It might not work but it was all I could find... it does not mention the problem

    I haven't used it anytime recently but you can use Terminal and the cp command with (I believe) the -p option. In Terminal type "man cp" for more information. Test it one one or two files first.

    Undoubtedly 10, it's the best desktop on Earth today.

    And despite all this BS that Winblows fanboys love to spread around here, I am yet to see a PC beating my 2008 iMac in terms of overall performance, UI responsiveness and REAL multitasking capabilities (not the crap that Windows represents).

    NONE of my friends and relatives (all of them NORMAL users) has a better-performing machine - so please be careful when reading posts from hobbyists about "building your machine" and the like. No ordinary customer does that or wants to do that.

    - The iMac has the BEST screen in the industry;
    - The BEST OS in the industry, with the option to run inferior Windows if you want to suffer;
    - The BEST AIO design, and none of the bulkiness common to the ugly Windows world;
    - The BEST keyboard;
    - The BEST standard, multitouch mouse (magic mouse) - just genius;
    - Even for an older machine like mine, EXCELLENT overall performance;
    - Multitasking responsiveness that is miles ahead of Windows machines (remembering my pathetic PC at work);
    - Almost totally silent;
    - The best customer service in the world.

    Windows PCs nowadays are just for three types of people:

    1 - Hardcore gamers who love to brag about irrelevant specs or one extra FPS;
    2 - People like the above who need to change their GPU every month or like to tinker with their boxes;
    3 - Masochists.

    Just buy your iMac and be happy - you're not gonna regret it.

    Yes, bring this thread back to life!

    I looked thru that apple listing of keystrokes, but I couldn't find one to restore windows (or I overlooked it). That is, if a window of an app is minimized onto the dock and you select the app by apple+tab, is there a keystroke to restore the window so I don't have to use the mouse to find it on the dock and click on it?

    Thanks!

    BBB ratings are no longer very reliable. You can get rid of a bad rating by buying advertising from BBB. I never trust a BBB rating anymore.

    Yeah, BBB has gotten so bad that I get suspicious of any retailer that brags about their BBB rating. The bigger the BBB logo is on a retailers website, the more problems you're going to have.

    If you want a true fresh state, use the Software Installation and Restore media that came with your system. See Apple Knowledge Base article #42929 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42929) and if you have DVDs, the process for either of the PowerBooks should be the same as for your MacMini.

    This is easier than trying to figure out what you need to delete.

    It appears that OS X will truncate any password longer than 7 characters to only 8 characters. In other words, it's an 8-character overflow. This problem is global in that it affects the Login Window, Screen Effects, Keychain Access, and even network logon security. For anyone with long password phrases that have easily-guessable words in the first 8 characters, this is a problem. Since "MacintoshOSXIsMoreSecureThanMicrosoftWindows" only needs to be entered as "Macintosh", gaining unauthorized access is very simple with a common name attack. Of course, we all have passwords that are a combination of letters and numbers, including a mix of upper- and lower-case characters. ;)

    I have several Zip drives available.

    A) 250MB SCSI

    B) 250MB USB (non-USB powered)

    To go with either, I have several 250MB disks and a bunch of 100MB disks. As with previous members, make an offer!

    I have a question are imacs and Macbooks good for gaming, as my friends say they are complete rubbish and I should just buy a gaming PC?
